This Month’s CERT Safety Tip:
Why Join Del Webb Lakewood Ranch CERT?
The Del Webb Lakewood Ranch Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) helps educate and train our residents to be better prepared for emergency situations in our community. When emergencies happen, our CERT team can provide critical support and communication to first responders, assistance to victims, and organize volunteers at a disaster site.
CERT is about readiness, and people helping people. Residents who have taken CERT training are better prepared to respond to and cope with an emergency, such as in the aftermath of a hurricane or tornado, widespread electrical outages, home fires, gas emergencies, or hazardous materials spills.
CERT members complete a FEMA-sponsored training and certification course provided in one of several locations close to our community. There is no cost for the training, and when you graduate you receive a CERT backpack filled with supplies, hard hat and vest. We hold monthly team meetings to work on educational programs, refine our activation and communications plans, practice and hone our skills, and share ideas on how to recruit new members and hold fund-raising events.
Del Webb Lakewood Ranch CERT is here for you – our residents. When you see us fund-raising at events, know that we put every dollar we raise back into our community for necessary supplies and educational programs to help everyone in our neighborhood. We are a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and all donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
FEMA Sponsorship
Our CERT team is one of about 3,000 teams in the U.S. sponsored by FEMA, trained by certified instructors, and backed by the Department of Public Safety of Manatee County. There are other communities in Lakewood Ranch that have started their own CERT teams. We meet with them regularly to share information and strategies, and we’re all connected to the Manatee County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to report and request assistance.
